The US is facing a severe ammunition shortage. After an uncertain and chaotic year, the demand for weapons has toppled through the roof.

The major cause for this demand mostly stems from the American concern for safety after the multiple public rioting incidents.

Not to mention, the pandemic has had an immense impact on the country’s supply-chain logistics.

Increased Ammunition Sales

The presidential drama, along with the frequent rioting episodes, has caused nationwide civil unrest. People are now worried about their safety more than ever.

There’s a huge number of new gun owners than there ever was in a long time. Anyone with even the slightest concern about their family’s safety or their business will head to the gun shop.

With the authoritative bodies occupied with handling the riots and public chaos, the people feel the need to protect themselves. Thus, the ammunition sales have spiked to a significant height.

Most retail sellers have to face problems with their inventory. Some even believe that the spike in gun sales is a response to the hateful stance of the far-right conservatives.

Furthermore, because of the increased level of uncertainty surrounding the situation, gun owners are purchasing ammunition to stock and not to shoot.

This means that there is plenty of bulk buying amongst veteran gun owners and preppers alike.

The stern belief over preparedness has intensified after the civil massacre and shootings.

Hence, the stockpiling of gun owners are making life difficult for firearm retailers.

Where Has The Ammo Gone?

Firearm retailers and wholesalers were happily enjoying their full inventory supply at the start of January 2020. No one expected their shelves to become empty by the end of the year in December.

Now, the unavailability of the ammunition is unfathomable for the consumers. The uncertainty of the pandemic, the conflicts over gun rights, presidential elections, and riots have led to the ammunition shortage.

Certainly, the ammunition manufacturers were not anticipating the rise in new gun owners and the rapid demand for gun supplies. Even hunters weigh in on the ammunition shortage.

Just like people were stocking toilet papers earlier in 2020, gun owners and even hunters are hoarding down boxes of ammunition.

In these times of uncertainty, panic buying has become a common practice of the consumers.

This panic-buying practice has transferred from the likes of toilet papers to disinfectants and now to ammunition.

Production Challenges

Keep in mind that 90 percent of the world’s ammunition market is in the US alone, and this seems to be increasing as years pass by. Therefore, the increased demand is causing hefty challenges for ammunition manufacturers to cope with, especially in pandemic times.

Gun manufacturers not only have to meet the needs of the markets but also keep their workers safe at the same time. The health and safety of the US workers will always remain the priority.

One obvious solution, i.e., increasing the number of workers, has gone out of the window due to the social distancing laws.

Manufacturers now have to make separate arrangements in their factories to accommodate more workers.

This is ultimately a time taking process, and the companies that have made the arrangement are still struggling to meet market requirements.

Apart from just the ammunition equipment, the demand for the ammunition material has also stunted. Since the pandemic is a global shutdown of the economy, there is an overseas lack of production in primer and brass.

These are two core materials for the manufacturing of ammunition. Other necessities for ammunition production are also scarce in number. These include gunpowder, cases, cardboard boxes, and packing tapes.

With the closing down of all manufacturing facilities, even small things such as the shipment and boxing of ammunition is now a challenging endeavor. Whether the sudden spike was a result of the people’s desperation or a frantic response to the civil unrest, certainly, the shortage in ammunition will not get better anytime soon.

Conspiracy Theory

Some conspiracy theorists have hinted that the ammunition shortage is a company plan to stockpile ammunition so that they can sell it to the wealthy. However, after stern questioning, the authorities have denied any of this information to be true. The president of the Remington ammunition company had to come out and address these rumors himself.

He simply stated that it is absurd to think that they are storing any ammunition in secret warehouses. He further explained that they are making more ammunition than they ever had. It is just the increasingly high demand for ammunition in such a short period, which has overwhelmed the company.

When Will The Shortage End?

Consider the fact that there are now seven million new gun owners across the nation since March 2020. If you take that number and make a conservative estimate on the ammunition requirement, it tallies up to 700 million new rounds of ammunition. Hence, it is impossible to meet this number in less than nine months.

This fact alone puts many conspiracies spiraling around this shortage to bed. The federal president confirms that production is likely to increase but only to some extent. Increasing the workforce and machinery is a time-consuming process.

Furthermore, in times of the pandemic, multiplying workers for the demands of the business is an irresponsible and inconsiderate step.

Thus, the shortage is likely to last throughout the year 2021 and maybe even longer.

The new Biden administration will also have much to do with the production of ammunition. Their important decisions regarding gun laws and legislation will influence the speed of ammunition production.

What Does This Mean For Preppers?

As a prepper that is looking to stock more ammunition, note that due to the basic laws of economics, the increased demand and decreased supply of the product are causing ammunition prices to soar.

Some bullets and cartridges have tripled in price since last year. Despite, what the reasons are for this ammunition scarcity, expect the prices to stay high until there are high demand and low supply.

However, the free market economy has a way of stabilizing itself. Expect the supply to catch up in a few months.

It is just a matter of patience; if you want to purchase the ammunition at a lower cost, you have to wait for the prices to drop down again.

Otherwise, you can scavenge around retail stores and spend hefty dollars on cartridges and rifle bullets.

If you are a hunter or someone looking for cartridges, you can always opt for switching to a different caliber shotgun according to the availability of the cartridges.

Consider something along the lines of .450 or 7mm Mag because the .223 Rem tends to finish up fast. Furthermore, you can even backorder ammunition and wait until April or March.

In these circumstances, patience is likely to play out in your favor. If you wait long enough for the inventories to stock up and the demand to drop, you can buy ammo for an astoundingly low price.

When companies have excess ammunition in their inventory and the demand does not pair up with the supply, they are likely to put extremely low prices on ammunition. Therefore, once the firearm hype stabilizes, it will become easier for you to stock up on ammunition because of the low prices.

How Much Ammo Should You Stockpile?

It depends on how much ammunition you need. It also depends on the location of your house, whether you live in the suburbs or urban areas.

If you live in a distant location, which is safe, then you may not need ammunition for protection. However, if you are a suburb resident hunter, then you will need to stock up on cartridges.

In terms of protection, if in case dire circumstances come about and require self-defense, then typically you should need about 300 rounds of ammunition at hand, per firearm. Some people believe that to be less, while others fancy even more. Another aspect that will determine your ammo requirements at hand is your strategy.

Do you plan to stay put and shelter in times of crisis? Or do you have an exit plan?

Sheltering and firing back will require more ammunition from your side. Whether it is an all-out attack or a threat, you will have to show the opposition that you are well equipped with plenty of ammunition.

On the other hand, if you plan to bug out and retreat to a safer destination, you need to travel light and carry essentials.

In the worst of scenarios, the roads will shut down. You may have to abandon your vehicle and escape on foot. In this situation, you need to have food, water, and essential survival gear. Therefore, carrying extra ammunition is not ideal.

Investing in ammunition is crucial, especially in survival situations.

You must have at least 10,000 rounds for each caliber weapon that you own. This may seem like too much, but in dire circumstances, ammunition will worth more than the most valuable of assets.

It is ideal to have your ammo and stock as much as possible, considering the increasing demand for ammunition and firearms.

January 6^th was heart-rending. To see people breaking into the capitol building, pilfering things there and causing both houses of Congress to be evacuated was something I never expected to see in this country. That’s the kind of thing that happens in third-world countries, usually as part of a coup of some sort. Yet it was live and in color, for all the world to see.

But it did prove one thing. That is, radical extremists on both sides can do foolish things, including engaging in violence. In fact, there have been people arrested and identified in conjunction with the capitol riot, which are from extremist groups on both sides. Nobody has a corner on foolishness.

I will have to say that the full story about that event hasn’t come out yet; and it’s quite possible that it never will. As with so many other things in the news these days, what we’re receiving is the commentary of pundits, disguised as news. Those opinions may have nothing at all to do with what actually happened, if another narrative fits their own political philosophy.

This is actually quite dangerous, as it helps to fuel those radical elements. The news media today is all about getting a reaction; how many “clicks” can you get. So they play to the more extreme elements on both sides of the political divide, and then measure their effectiveness by how big a reaction they get from those extreme elements.

That leaves you and I, as well as 99.9% of the rest of the population in the middle, where we are just trying to live our lives and make it until next payday. Even so, we need to concern ourselves with those radical groups; not so much who they are, as what they are likely to do.

As we all know, what they are likely to do is cause more trouble for everyone. Whether or not we are included in the group that they cause trouble for, is not something we get to choose. It’s a more random chance than anything else.

Nevertheless, there are things we can do to minimize the risk and to make sure that we can survive, if we somehow get in their way and become a target.

Let’s Talk Priorities

Before talking about specific actions to take, we need to establish what our basic priorities are. Understanding those priorities is an important part of making our decisions as to what we are going to do in light of civil unrest.

• Priority #1 : Make sure that we and our families survive the incident without becoming injured or killed
• Priority #22: Keep our homes from becoming vandalized or destroyed
• Priority X: There are no other priorities

The vast difference between priority #1 and priority #22 is intentional. While stated as a bit of a joke, it is intended to show the vast difference between the two. When it comes down to it, we can rebuild our homes and replace our possessions, but we can’t replace our family. Taking care of them comes first.

As for anything else, like our personal political opinion, that has to take a back seat to taking care of our families. Getting embroiled in the great political divide we have here in our country is a good way to end up becoming part of the violence, either as a rioter or as a victim. There really are no other categories.

Save your political opinion for times when it might make a difference; like voting and having a real discussion with others about the issues.

Experts predict that an EMP strike that wipes out electricity across the nation would ultimately lead to the demise of up to 90% of the population. However, this figure begs an important question: if we were able to live thousands of years without even the concept of electricity, why would we suddenly all die without it?

Step 1 – Avoidance

The most important thing for any of us to do is to avoid places and gatherings where riots are likely to spring up.

In today’s heated political environment, that means avoiding all of them. People are already filled to the brim with frustration due to Coronavirus lockdowns and the problems we’ve all faced throughout the last year. It doesn’t take much to make them go over the edge, which in a crowd situation, can very well mean the crowd turns into an angry mob.

So, what are these places? They can be anywhere where people gather in large numbers. But they are most likely to be in public spaces, close to seats of government. Most of the protests and riots over the last year have taken place outside of municipal government buildings. Some have also taken place in front of state capitol buildings.

Political rallies or demonstrations of any kind are the most dangerous place to be. In many cases, it’s not the people who are there for the demonstration who are the problem, but professional agitators who are brought in for the specific purpose of trying to turn that demonstration into a violent riot.

These people are trained in what they do. They know how to tap into people’s anger and frustration, turning it into something ugly.

Once they get things started, they’ll back off and sneak out of the crowd, so that they can avoid arrest and live to agitate another day.

What this means if that the violence that goes on with many demonstrations is probably not started by the demonstrators or for the purpose of the demonstrators. We’ve seen that in both the BLM demonstrations and possibly in the January 6^th break-in of the Capitol building.

Saying away doesn’t mean that you have to give up your political beliefs or even that you have to forego letting our elected legislators know what you think about the issues at stake. It just means finding other ways of expressing your opinion, like calling their offices or sending them an e-mail.

If You’re Caught in a Violent Protest

Regardless of how hard you try to stay out of the fray, there’s always a chance that you might find yourself caught in an emerging mob situation. That’s obviously very dangerous. You might not even realize that there’s an event happening or the event might end up coming to where you are.

Maintaining good situational awareness can help you avoid this. If you’re constantly looking to see what dangers there might be around you, you’re likely to see an emotion-charged crowd forming. That would be a good indicator that it’s time to leave, before anything else can happen.

But even then, you might find it impossible to leave, without attracting notice. In that case, the most important thing to do is act like you’re part of the mob. Basic mob mentality is that if you’re not with them, then you’re an enemy. Since enemies get attacked, it’s much safer to act like you’re one of them, than to act any other way.

That’s not to say that you become part of the mob. Keep a clear head, so that you don’t fall into that trap. It can be very easy to become part of what you’re trying to avoid, if you let your emotions get the best of you. This is much truer in situations where you might agree with the demonstrators.

Rather, you want to work your way gradually to the edge of the crowd and then make good your escape. Don’t take a direct line for the edge, as that might make you stand out. Rather, move slowly and gradually towards the edge, all the while moving in other directions, like a sailboat tacking into the wind. Then, when you are on the edge and the opportunity presents itself, you can slip behind something that hides you from the crowd’s view and make good your escape.

What About Weapons?

Even if you carry concealed every day, like I do, the last thing you want to do is take out your gun in this sort of situation. That goes for any other weapon as well.

There are just too many people for you to deal with, no matter how good you are.

Eventually, you’ll either run out of ammunition or strength and then the crowd will have their own way with you, probably kicking you to death.

It’s a problem of numbers. I carry a pistol with a five round magazine and two spare seven round extended magazines. So, with the round in the chamber, I have a total of 20 rounds. Even if I make a killing headshot all 20 times, I’ve done no more than scratch the surface of that mob, while enraging everyone else further. I probably won’t have to worry about my self-defense case in court, because I won’t be around to make that case.

If You’re in a Vehicle

Being in a vehicle won’t necessarily be to your benefit. While the vehicle body does offer some protection against thrown rocks and blows from baseball bats, the vehicle will suffer for it. Should things come to that, they’ll probably go for the windshield and other glass pretty quickly; none of which will withstand much abuse.

Even if they don’t break through the windshield, you may not be able to see well enough to drive safely.

Protesters who block traffic are counting on you stopping. But if you do, it makes you more vulnerable. You’re actually better off if you keep moving slowly, pushing against their bodies and forcing them to let you through. Don’t ram them and don’t try to run them over, just keep driving ahead very slowly.

This is risky for legal reasons. While it is the sort of advice that has been given for decades, the laws in most states have never addressed the issue. Some states have passed laws which allow drivers to continue driving through the mob; but even then, there’s going to be a point at which the courts say that there was intent to do serious harm, rather than just trying to get through the crowd.

Your only real defense here is to be doing it in self-defense. That means using the criteria that there is an imminent threat of life and limb.

In other words, there’s an immediate threat that the mob will either seriously hurt you or kill you. They’ve singled you out and they are taking violent action against you, such as trying to rock your vehicle to turn it over.

Without something like that, you have a hard time proving that it was self-defense, so make sure you give the protesters ample opportunity to get out of your way.

Protecting Your Home

Even if you decide to stay home and away from any place where violence might occur, there’s always the risk that the violence might come find you.

While the vast majority of these events happen nearby government buildings, it’s not all that uncommon for the riots or protests to move beyond that area and into surrounding business districts and even residential areas.

If you live in an upscale area or the city mayor lives in your housing development, their home might be targeted, putting your family at risk due to proximity.

That’s what happened in the case of the McCloskeys; the couple who were charged for defending their home in Saint Louis in June of 2020.

A Black Lives Matter protest broke into their gated community, because the mayor lived there and they were video-taped standing in front of their home, armed, protecting it.

The case became highly controversial, with the DA charging them with unlawful use of a firearm, about the lowest-level crime involving a firearm you can be charged with.

I highly recommend having firearms to protect your home; but not like the McCloskeys did. The mistake they made wasn’t in having the firearms or being ready to defend their home, it was in letting the mob know that they did. That invoked anger on the part of some demonstrators, while putting them in jeopardy of criminal charges. Oh, and by the way, they live in a state which has enacted the Castle Doctrine into law.

The secret here is to keep your defenses of your home hidden from view.

While you need to be ready to defend home and family, don’t advertise.

In other words, don’t go outside, brandishing a firearm.

If you’re going to have a firearm on your body, either have it in a holster of slung across your chest with your hands off it.

There will be plenty of time to draw your gun if it looks like the mob is going to attack your home. Then and only then should you move to take action. Let them make the first violent move and make sure that you get it on video.

Should You Flee?

Different states have different stances on the Castle Doctrine or Stand Your Ground laws. It would be a good idea to find out what your state says. But regardless of that, you should think through whether you’re going to abandon your home or whether you’re going to stay to defend it.

While I’m a strong proponent of the Second Amendment, carry concealed every day and go to the range regularly for tactical practice, I also recognize the inherent dangers of using a firearm to defend myself.

My basic stance is to make sure that I am as prepared as possible to defend myself and my family and then do everything possible to avoid having to. I have no problem with the old phrase, “Discretion is the better part of valor.”

In today’s political climate, the idea that you can get off scott-free from killing someone in self-defense is wearing thin. Even though we technically still have that right, there is always the chance that you will be charged, just like the McCloskeys were. Thank God they didn’t fire a shot, as that would have been worse for them.

There is nothing shameful about leaving your home when there is violence nearby and heading to a safer place.

There is no guarantee that you won’t be the one to get shot, rather than successfully defending your home.

You’re better off not taking the risk.

If You Have to Fire

Should you find yourself in a position where you have to take up arms in defense of your home, there are a few basic rules that you should endeavor to follow. First, make sure that any action you take is without a doubt action taken in self-defense. That means letting them take the first shot, even if that puts you at risk.

Secondly, get it on video. Have a family member take a video of everything that’s happening, so that you can concentrate on defending your home. That video is evidence you can use to defend your actions, especially if it shows that the mob started the violence.

If you do have to take a shot, make sure that the person you shoot at is actually a threat, taking time to aim carefully so that you don’t miss. If there are several who are a threat, try to shoot the leader, as taking out the leader will tend to demotivate others and could lead to breaking up the attack.

One of the biggest questions is: WHEN TO LET THE POLICE INTERVENE AND WHEN TO TAKE JUSTICE INTO YOUR OWN HANDS?

Home Invasion

The average police response time is estimated at 10 minutes. Though, in rural or even semi-rural areas that wait could be much longer.

Even 10 minutes is an awfully long time to be under siege by someone breaking into your home. This is especially true if you are unarmed.

The gun control advocates are trying to assure that any guns that have are locked up in a safe, in your basement, so you have no possibility of using them when you need them most.

In a home invasion you should call the police. You should have EMS in route as soon as you hear the alarm or the glass break in your home but that does not mean you must cower and wait for the criminals to decide your fate.

Home invasions have become deadly in recent years and you should not count on the mercy of someone who is brazen enough to break into your home. Gather your family and be prepared to defend them if it comes to that.

Active Shooter

The mass shooting is a terrible scar on humanity. The attacks on soft targets like schools and churches also play on our worst fears. Paralyzed by these fears we have given a lot of power to these lunatic shooters. In many ways we are being trained to look at any maniac with a gun as an unstoppable force.

While the standard training for mass shootings tells us to run, hide and fight, there are many who believe otherwise.

Tim Kennedy, green beret, UFC fighter and entrepreneur runs a company called Sheepdog Response which teaches a vastly different line of thinking.

It’s one that centers around outsmarting, attacking, and disabling a shooter using superior numbers, strategy, and violence of action.

In a mass shooting you do not have to lay and wait for your chance to be a victim.

When Life Is At Risk

There are a number of situations that could put a person’s life at risk from a human threat.

Most people don’t realize that a simple street fight can actually end in someone never coming home.

To be knocked unconscious and fall onto the concrete or asphalt is nothing good for the human brain.

Sometimes the trauma is such that it can kill them.

When life is at risk and seconds count, you simply cannot wait on the police. We have to live with our choices, and you do not want to live with your decision to sit back and let someone get hurt or killed when you could have intervened and stopped it.

Riots And Unrest

Do you want the truth about civil unrest and riots? It’s pretty simple. The cops are busy. They have serious problems to deal with. If massive crowds of people overwhelm the police force, then all bets are off. So, if you round a corner and find yourself in the thick of a violent protest, you are on your own.

Forget about waiting for police to arrive. You have to understand they are not coming. If you are targeted, it becomes a game of survival.

How many people did we see knocked unconscious during the “peaceful” riots in the summer of 2020? Heads bounced off concrete and asphalt and the police were not available to help with any of that.

Natural Disasters

In the short term, it seems that natural disasters bring out the best in people and the worst in the long term. We are watching the state of Texas face something like this as I write this article. God bless them.

There are always going to be bad people who take serious risks during natural disasters.

There were looters who ran into the burning homes in the hills of California to steal valuables. This while the wildfires were closing in or already burning the homes!

Depending on the type of disaster sometimes the police cannot get to you.

However, you need to be prepared to defend yourself and your property if you come face to face with one of these devious opportunists.

What’s More

Sometimes taking action or taking justice into your own hands is about the preservation of human life. It can also be about simply living with yourself. If you know that you could have done more to help someone, you will forever live in guilt that you didn’t act when you could have.

We can never lose respect for our thin blue line. Police do a job that is not only a miracle but one that is less appreciated by the day. They cannot be everywhere all at once so, at times, you must be prepared to take justice into your own hands!

The forces are mounting that will eventually overwhelm most Americans and send their standard of living to unknown depths. Americans that have only known the post WWII prosperity are ill equipped and educated to deal with depression level living. Easy credit and instant gratification have created a nation of whining, self absorbed, entitlement minded people with no moral or mental toughness.

Doug Casey believes we are headed for what he calls a super depression created by the ending of a debt super cycle. The bigger the debt cycle the bigger the depression that follows. That’s how reality works and most people are not prepared for reality.

When this depression, which has already started, gets momentum, it will overwhelm the plans of a society that is expecting to get things like social security, pensions and payouts from retirement plans they have paid into for many years. All of those things will disappear almost overnight and leave society gasping and stupefied over what to do. Their reactions will be to yell and scream and try to identify who to blame but the only person they should blame is the one in the mirror.

Many very smart people have raised the alarm and done their best to warn the sleeping public, but those slumbering masses have ignored the warnings and hit the snooze button one more time. The masses do not understand economics, do not want to understand economics and they will pay dearly for that ignorance in the coming days.

When the real unemployment rate becomes common knowledge as it increases substantially, people will be left to survive on what resources they have saved up outside the banking system that cannot be stolen by the politicians and bankers. That is a key point here. The assets you have outside the system that cannot be stolen from you with a few key strokes on some computer.

Those hoping for some miraculous event that will send the U.S. back to the days of manufacturing might and jobs for all will never see it happen. Those days are gone. The west line theory tells us our economy will slow down and become more modest as the shipping center of the world moves west to the next powerhouse region which is Asia. This is what history teaches us.

When people suddenly wake up one morning and they have no job, their retirement is gone and they need to care for their family, what will they do? When government services have collapsed and they suddenly realize they are now living in a third world country with few government services, what will they do? When the banks are closed and only a select few connected people have any type of money or access to goods, what will they do?

This is the reality that many people will face in the future and they have no idea how bad it can get. They refuse to contemplate the harsh reality they will be living in and take steps to mitigate the effects. To do so would be to acknowledge it could happen and they are taking personal responsibility. Personal responsibility is a dirty phrase in today’s entitlement society. To see some of the effects one only has to look at the collapse of society in Venezuela today to see what awaits.

When it happens it will all fall back to you to take responsibility for your family and take care of them for the duration. To do that you need to plan now for that eventuality and build up the resources you will need to provide food, shelter, clothing and security when the system fails to do it for you. You need to be Noah on his ark not the people watching as he floated away.

Having resources stored up is a must but it may not get you all the way through if the situation lasts for many years. That is why you need some type of plan to replace those resources as time goes by and have some way to generate some type of income or at least items to trade. Usable goods are for the short term and things like gold ,silver and production equipment are for the long term to help you get through the crisis with the least amount of pain.

Even with proper planning the days ahead will not be easy as the standard of living of society will fall substantially to levels only seen in failed third world countries or old pictures. The assets actually owned by people today is very small compared to how they live. They will default on their home loan, their car loan, and their credit card debt leaving them with very few real possessions and few ways to move what they have left even if they have some place to go. Ultimately these people will become the new serfs to the wealthy class that will take possession of anything of value. Feudalism will once again rule.

The lack of planning by society will make this a reality if it is allowed. What will you do when everything you have worked a lifetime for is suddenly taken away? Do you have a plan to keep what you have? Do you have a plan to make money when you cannot find a job? Do you have a way to take care of your family until things stabilize? Do you have a home you will not lose if the whole system breaks down? What will you do if electricity or fuel is too expensive to buy or not available to the general population? These are the questions you should be asking yourself now and you better have a good answer because your family will be asking them when the greater depression sets in.

Our underlying goal in a SHTF scenario is ultimately to stay alive and live without exposure to risks.  As much preparation as many of us have made, in the altered world of a SHTF crisis, there will be many dangers that lurk; and some of them will be inadvertently from our own doing.

Here are the six laws of survival. Read this. Memorize this. Apply this. One day, you will need it.]

In a survival scenario all bets are off and the following laws will keep you alive. These laws are rigid, but necessary. Harsh, but true. Keep your cards close and always have a plan.

Law 1: Wherever that crowd is running, do not join them.

This is not to say that they aren’t (initially) running in the right direction.  But what of it?  They are bound to be either captured en masse or worse (bombed, strafed, or shot).  For the horror of the IHM (the Incredible Human Mob), look no further than “War of the Worlds” with Tom Cruise where he and his family are driving the passenger van…right up and into the mob.  Look what happened there.  You can’t defeat their numbers, and you will be captive to them…another steer in the herd.

Strike out on your own, you and your family, avoiding the main thoroughfares at all cost, and avoiding the IHM.

Law 2: You have to have a place (and places) to go.

This is where thinking outside of the general herd will pay off.  We’re going to instruct by running through a checklist…. this will be a “handy-dandy” checklist that you can print out or run over in your mind to be able to follow rule #2.

• Did you preposition assets (food, weapons, money, etc.) at an initial safe location?
• Is that location within walking distance for you and your family?
• Once there, are you and your family secure for at least a 24 – 48-hour period?
• Safe from enemy troops/government “peacekeepers” on the hunt?
• Safe from fallout and/or NBC agents?
• Does it have a food and water supply to sustain all of you for 7 days?
•  If your initial safe location has been compromised, is a duplicate location nearby?
• Do you have a farther (more remote) location that you can reach on foot in 3 days?
• A secure, sustainable location with supplies for at least a month?
• Do you and your family have a handheld method of communication for each member?
• Have you formulated short-term (initial contact, 48 hours, 7 days) plans?
• Have you made long-term (1 month and month-by-month; 6 months and 6-month continuous analysis; 1 year) plans?

Guys and gals, these are just basics.  You must have these things in place in order to give you and your family a fighting chance.  Whether or not it is a foreign invasion or a domestic communist takeover of the United States, you must leave your home in suburbia or you will be rounded up, bringing us forward:

Law 3: You will be leaving your home, permanently or for a long time.

This is survival.  The majority of readers are not living in the mountains or in a remote location.  If you follow these steps and practice them on a dry-run on a regular basis…it will give you the advantage that most people will not have.  You must innovate: come up with ideas that others will not think of.  Do you know of an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town?  Chances are that 90% of others will think the same thing in a grid-down/Red Dawn survival scenario.  You need to find the places that are off the beaten path.  And if there are none?  It may mean that you have to create a place.

How?  By caching your supplies within the walking distances described for each part of the “safe” area.  By finding tunnels, caves, or other sub-structures that can protect you from the elements and at least afford partial protection from radiation.  By being who it is you imagine yourself to be: a prepper…a survivalist…or a survivor.  When you enter any contest, do you enter it to lose?  Do you strive for just “second place” or “second best” in this arena?  Chances are the answer is “no,” but you have to arrive on that conclusion on your own.  All of this is a challenge, and this underlines everything for you if it needs clarification:

Law 4: In survival, there is no silver medal: “second place” means death.

Forget that phrase in “The Hunger Games,” because if you are taken…the odds are not ever in your favor.  We went through a 4-article series on how to escape from the Gulag where I reiterated how important it is for you to stay out of it.  I stand by this concept.  If you are taken captive, the odds aren’t in your favor of getting out…for the duration of it.

And then guess what?  The Germans during WWII as the allies approached began to hide their transgressions by liquidating the camps…basically killing everyone that could bear any type of witness to the atrocities.  Do not think for an instant that it will not happen again.  Look at Holodomor in Ukraine and the starvation tactics the USSR used to follow after the Malthusian model.  Our enemies have very little regard for human life, and the lives they value are of their own people.  If the Chinese communists would run over their own people with tanks and sell their internal organs while they’re still alive, what will they do with us?

Which brings us to the “Malcolm X” rule:

Law 5: You must stay out and survive by any and all means necessary.

Some of you may think “JJ is a little harsh.”  I would rather be hard and harsh now, and enable you, my countrymen, to have some tools at your disposal and a “sharp tack” under the figurative buttocks of your mind to give you the impetus to do something about the situation prior to its occurrence.  The country is “long in the tooth,” and you have to grasp these concepts and act upon them now…not burn off the pages and save them in the survival archives…but use them to inculcate your own, individual plan of action now.

Rule #5 means resolving yourself to do what you must in order to protect yourself from the ravages (and not just possible, but probable death) inside of one of these camps.  These are all basic, “generic” things to begin as a base for your preparations.  This is a form of guerilla warfare!  Avoid the occupiers/oppressors at all cost!  These things will work for you…if you resolve yourself (ves) to do them.  I’ll close with a note on OPSEC (operational security): you better build off of these basics and keep all of them to yourself.

JJ is giving you the basics that you need, without revealing everything of his own plans.  Why?  Because I earned them by paying for them with years of experience and suffering, and it means my family’s survival.  Such measures would run you a lot of money and imagination; such measures come from years of practical experience and the willingness to take chances.  This thought brings us to our final rule, the failure of which means compromise leading to death:

Law 6:  Do not tip your hand or reveal your plans to anyone.

The Worst Guns Every Prepper Should Avoid

Here we’ve rounded up the top 12 worst guns ever manufactured to ensure preppers remember to avoid it.

Sten Gun MK II

Manufactured in the United Kingdom in 1940, Britain introduced this submachine gun when facing an invasion. To combat that, the Sten Gun was designed to offer soldiers some form of protection.

However, despite boasting a range of 230 feet and a capacity of 32 rounds, the gun isn’t a popular choice among preppers.

The reason being it tends to misfire, and reports show that the gun’s bullets bounced off of the target.

The Bazooka

Introduced in 1942 by the US, the bazooka offers an excellent range of 500 feet.

Unfortunately, the single-shot rocket launcher creates an enormous flare every time it’s fired. In turn, it may give away where the shooter is hiding and shoot debris, dust, and flames back at the owner.

2mm Kolibri

The smallest centerfire cartridge pistol in history, the Kolibri, was fabricated in 1914. The pistol was named after the Colibri/hummingbird to assist in personal defense.

Including a 5.3g cartridge and measuring a mere 2-inches in length, this semi-automatic offers six rounds.

While the mini-sized gun is super easy to conceal and boasts little to no recoil, its small size made it virtually impossible for owners to reload and handle it.

In addition to this, the small barrel restricted owners from rifling to spin bullets, thus reducing the gun’s accuracy.

Magnum Caliber Handguns

While the Magnum Caliber Handgun is a classy and fun gun, there are some downsides to using it.

Especially for first-time shooters, the gun’s massive recoil may result in either developing a flinch or hurting yourself.

Worst of all, if you can’t handle a gun properly, you may end up accidentally shooting yourself.

In addition to this, the ammunition for Magnum handguns is relatively more expensive and may even deter learners from learning good shooting habits.

The LeMat Grapeshot Revolver

Designed in the United States in 1856, the LeMat grapeshot revolver was introduced as a cavalry weapon during the Civil War.

The revolver can store nine pistol rounds per revolver setup alongside a bonus barrel and a single shotgun in the center.

Therefore, owners had to switch the movable firing pin to select their desired round.

In theory, the revolver sounded like an excellent idea. In practice, it was deemed ill-conceived and challenging to use.

The Krummlauf

The Krummlauf was designed in 1943 by the Germans to shoot around the corners.

The intricately crafted weapon is curved and can be clamped atop the barrel of anStG 44 (or Mp-44) rifle.

The original idea was that with the Krummlauf gun, soldiers could shoot while in cover or inside a tank. Thus, the weapon comes in four different versions, which were 30 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees.

While the curved design of the Krummlauf looked pretty cool, it also meant that the bullets had to travel around a bend. Which often resulted in the bullets either shattering and cracking the barrel. The manufacturer introduced additional modifications to the weapon, such as installing vent holes to lower recoil and pressure. However, the Krummlauf still sustained damage.

The Apache Revolver

Launched in 1860, the Apache revolver obtained its name from the French gangs who helped popularise the gun. The gun sounded incredible as it combines a six-shot revolver with a knife and brass knuckles.

Unfortunately, the folding triangular blade installed in the gun led to removing the gun’s barrel.

In turn, shots fired from the gun were inaccurate and overall challenging to make.

Not to mention, reloading the gun meant owners had to remove the whole cartridge cylinder and replace it. The trigger guard and safety of the revolver were also missing.

Chauchat Light Machine Gun

Fabricated in 1915 by the French during World War I, the Chauchat light machine gun was poorly designed. In fact, the firing mechanism of the machine gun jammed every two seconds.

On the flip side, if the gun did end up working adequately, its 20-round capacity was insufficient fighting.

The Gyrojet Pistol

The Gyrojet pistol was introduced in 1965 in the US and boasted one of the most creative designs. Moreover, the handgun featured a range of 165 feet and fired via an innovative rocket propulsion technique.

The drawback was that these guns were super inaccurate, which isn’t ideal in combat.

The Mars Pistol

During the 20th century, gun inventors in the UK strived to fabricate a self-loading pistol.

Their efforts ultimately led to the development of the Colt m1911. However, before that, they crafted the Mars pistol.

This extremely complicated handgun would shoot used cartridges into the owner’s face. Its production halted soon, but at least 80 pistols had already been manufactured.

The Colt 1885 Revolving Rifle

In the 19th century, an American inventor Samuel Colt introduced the modern revolver, offering about six fast-firing shots before reloading.

The creative design and revolutionary technology of the handgun ended up becoming the standard pattern of handguns.

Inventors decided to combine revolver-level firepower with rifles, which led to the Colt 1855 revolving rifle’s manufacture. Unfortunately, unlike his first invention, the revolving rifle proved to be of low quality.

The loud noise of the gun alongside the revolver-cylinder system’s open nature put the user’s life in danger. Since these weapons are close to the owner’s face, a mechanical failure or explosions could easily lead to devastating repercussions.

The Colt 2000

The Colt 2000 was designed as a substitute for the Austrian Glock pistol and was one of the company’s worst guns. Developed by leading gun designers Eugene Stoner and Reed Knight Jr., the gun looked incredible in theory.

The weapon boasted an elegant polymer frame alongside a meta slide to reduce weight, a double-stacked magazine with the ability to hold fifteen rounds, and a striker-fired design.

The drawback was that the gun lacked reliability and security. Not only did users experience frequent jamming, but the gun offered low accuracy as well. As a result, the gun lasted a mere four years in the industry.

Final Thoughts

Purchasing sufficient and appropriate weaponry is no easy task. Especially since the market offers a wide array of options, it’s increasingly difficult for Preppers to pinpoint which guns are the best and which aren’t so good.

However, doing an in-depth reading and thoroughly checking the different gun features allows owners to discern whether their selected gun is of premium quality or the exact opposite.

Above we mentioned a plethora of guns preppers should avoid due to their poor design and low-quality features. Moreover, it’s critical to choose high-quality guns to ensure your safety in case of a gunfight.

Doomsday fiction has reigned as a popular sub-genre of science fiction since the dawn of the nuclear age. For many people, reading about how fictional characters deal with the end of civilization as we know it can be strangely comforting.

Perhaps they make us realize that our situation isn’t as bad as we think it is. Or maybe we just like reading about how the human spirit can survive even in the darkest of circumstances.

As we face our current volatile and uncertain times, many readers are revisiting classic post-apocalyptic novels, and others are discovering them for the first time. As the name implies, post-apocalyptic books are set in a world after a devastating catastrophe.

Some of these books involve the aftermath of nuclear war, supernatural phenomena, climate disasters, dysgenics, attack from extraterrestrials, or divine judgment. Some even offer the achingly familiar scenario of a pandemic.

If you’re not getting enough excitement out of our current events and would like to immerse yourself in some fictional disasters and learn how the protagonists deal with them, here is our list of 10 (in no particular order) of the best post-apocalyptic books to read this year.

1. The Stand by Stephen King 

Originally published in 1978, Stephen King’s The Stand describes a world that has been devastated by a mutated strain of influenza. Within just a few weeks, 99 percent of the world’s population is dead. As the few survivors look for a new leader, two people emerge.

They are Mother Abagail, an elderly woman who promotes a peaceful community in Boulder, Colorado. And Randall Flagg, who demonstrates an affinity for utter chaos and violence. As both of them gather support and power, the fate of what remains of humanity hangs in the balance.

2. Swan Song by Robert McCammon 

Often compared with The Stand, Swan Song by Robert McCammon is a 1987 novel that describes the gruesome aftermath of a nuclear war between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Only a few people have survived, and they must face a scorched landscape that includes mutated animals, evil warriors, and starvation.

This novel is very dark and not for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking for a creative and engrossing battle between good and evil, this is it.

3. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel 

Station Eleven, a 2014 novel, hits close to home since it deals with the aftermath of a virus that sweeps throughout the globe, killing 95 percent of the population and bringing civilization to collapse.

As we follow Kirsten and a band of surviving actors and musicians, we go back and forth in time, before and after the pandemic. As it does so, the novel teaches us lessons about—among other things—the value of art and friendship and what it means to be human.

4. A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller Jr.

One of the oldest novels on our list, A Canticle for Leibowitz, was first published in 1959. The setting is a Catholic monastery in the Utah desert after a nuclear war. The book spans thousands of years as humankind rebuilds itself from the ashes and learns lessons about truth and love along the way.

5. The Dog Stars by Peter Heller 

Do you want to read another post-apocalyptic book about a pandemic? Only you can answer that. The Dogs Stars, first published in 2012, is a poetic and haunting novel. It is set in tragic circumstances, but it ultimately relays a message of hope and offers a perspective on what it really means to be human.

6. The Road by Cormac McCarthy 

Cormac McCarthy won the Pulitzer Prize for this sparsely-written but heartbreaking novel. First published in 2006, The Road is the story of a father and his young son who journey through the devastated landscape of America after an unnamed disaster.

Their destination is the coast, and they are must defend themselves against all kinds of terrors—real and remembered—as they make their way there. The book is disturbing, absorbing, and memorable.

7. The Passage by Justin Cronin 

Many post-apocalyptic novels involve long, difficult quests for other survivors, and for good reason. The Passage (2010) is the story of Amy, who, as one of the few to make it through the apocalypse, realizes she has the power to save the devastated world.

This novel is the first of a trilogy of post-apocalyptic novels that begin with the disastrous outcome of a chilling military experiment. 

8. Into the Forest by Jean Hegland 

Into the Forest, first published in 1996, tells the story of two sisters who live 30 miles away from the closest town and a few miles from any neighbors.

When the power goes out, technology fails, and other resources dwindle as part of a societal collapse, Nell and Eva must figure out how to survive with what they can find and create in the forests near their Northern California home. Mostly they learn to rely on each other.

9. Earth Abides by George R. Stewart

One of the earliest post-apocalyptic novels, Earth Abides, was first published in 1949. The protagonist, Isherwood Williams, is able to fend off a deadly disease that is sweeping through the U.S. by fleeing to the mountains. When he leaves his hideaway, however, he returns to a collapsed civilization. Isherwood and another survivor he encounters along his journey must forge a primitive lifestyle in order to remain alive.

Since this book was written before TV was in every home—let alone internet access—it reads as a harsh wake-up call on how dependent we are on technology and all the conveniences of modern life.

10. Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban

Twelve-year-old Riddley Walker is the narrator of this unusual post-apocalyptic novel, and he tells his story in language that is just as disjointed as his world. The broken language is a little off-putting at first, but if you stay with it, reading it becomes easier and even rewarding. Here’s the first line as an example:

“On my naming day when I come 12 I gone front spear and kilt a wyld boar he parbly ben the las wyld pig on the Bundel Downs any how there hadnt ben none for a long time befor him nor I aint looking to see none agen.”

Written in 1980, the novel takes us well into the future after a nuclear holocaust and imagines what it took for humankind to survive and start over. 

Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic is not to be confused with fiction that provides visions of a dystopian future. As the antonym of utopia, dystopia is an imagined society that is frightening and dehumanizing and. George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), P.D. James’s The Children of Men (2006), and Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale (1985) are well-known examples of dystopian fiction, not post-apocalyptic fiction.

Post-apocalyptic fiction deals with the people who survive a catastrophe that brings an end to the world as we know it. In fact, “apocalypse” comes from the Greek word “apokalupsis,” meaning the end of the world. So now you know.

Now that society is breaking down in so many parts of America, the time to truly look into and developing shooting skills to protect ourselves and our families and loved ones is upon us. There is no need to say who, what, when or why at this point, the breakdown is here and may be on our doorsteps sooner than later.

There are so many new gun owners that firearms for self-defense are flying off the shelves and many shops can’t keep ammunition for these guns in stock. But the mindset I’m talking about here is for everyone.

With this knowledge and hearing the lamentation of the victims of violence combined with the reluctance of some government organizations to de-fund their police departments, there is only one alternative; we must learn to defend ourselves.

With the realization that not all city and states have this breakdown, we still have to be aware that these roving bands could very well show up in any part of the nation at any time. Being prepared is the only solution.

The Most Important Step

Handling and learning your particular firearm is very important. It doesn’t matter what you are carrying or own for self and home protection, but it does matter that you know how to use it.

Yes, going to the shooting range is the first step in learning proper shooting technique.

But, when you need to use it, you won’t be behind a nice shooting stand with calm surroundings and being able to get into a good Weaver stance, or have a range master, nor will you have eye or ear protection.

The emergency will jump on you fast and an immediate response will be required. So, what is your best weapon to survive? Your brain is by far your best weapon. Stay out of troubled areas if you can. Avoid situations that may cause trouble. You don’t go into a biker bar or cowboy bar at 2:00 am and become a nuisance. Don’t ask for trouble and avoid it when possible. Yes, sometimes, it’s not possible.

These emergency situations will have your heart racing, your breath coming in gasps and probably so many things running through your mind that it may take those critical moments when you need to be composed away from you.

There is no video game, no formal range time or other training to prepare you for those few moments that your life or the life of a loved one is in the balance. When bullets are flying by you, or a gang is beating you or your loved one is not the time to learn – it’s a time to act in self-defense.

Another Essential Aspect of Gun Ownership

Now is the time to truly learn how to shoot your firearm. Taking an auto loading firearm down for cleaning is an important aspect of gun ownership. Keep your firearm clean.

Know how to use it with your dominant hand and with your non-dominant hand. Learn how to reload it one handed with either hand.

This may involve some strange contortions, but a valuable exercise if you ever need to do that. If wounded or in a fight, this may very well save your life. Of course, learn how to clear a jam, with either a handgun or rifle. (They put a forward assist on AR type rifles for a reason.)

The Right Mind-Set

Put yourself in a hunter’s or soldier’s mind-set. They are continually facing difficult terrain having to shoot after running uphill to get to a good location to shoot, dealing with trees, brush or other obstacles before they can get a good shot.

Running to get your heart beating fast to get used to finding that front sight or scope cross hairs and hold steady to get an accurate shot.

Shoot from the kneeling position, like if you were attacked and knocked down.

Shoot from the prone with rifle or handgun, then roll over and shoot at the target from your back and over your head.

Move and shoot and move again; this could be a key to survival.

As you walk through town or the grocery store or wherever you are, look for things that could be used as a barrier or a place to conceal yourself if danger presented itself. Then, put yourself in that position when you do get a chance to practice shooting. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. I can’t emphasize this enough. Know where you are in the event you need to call for help.

At home, imagine an intruder or several crashing into your home. What furniture can you use as a barrier or to conceal yourself? How would you to get to a firearm and bring it to bear in seconds. Have you thought about using a mattress to conceal yourself from an intruder bent on violence? Would the mattress help or hinder? What kind of protection do the walls of your house provide?

Shooting From A Moving Vehicle

If possible, learn to shoot from a moving vehicle. Soldiers need this ability all the time and it appears that we may very well need this ability as well. Shoot under a vehicle at a target at different ranges, as vehicles may be your best or only concealment. So many things to think about, I know. But, learn one aspect at a time.

If you can’t find an open spot to shoot in odd positions, learn to dry-fire in your residence. Run in place pick a target and close your eyes to bring the front sight into line with that target before opening your eyes to see how well you did. It’s not easy, but these little exercises may be the difference between living and not.

Dry firing is a great way to learn, but do be careful not to have a loaded firearm around when you plan to practice.

Many police cadets in learning to shoot have put a bullet into a cabinet, a refrigerator or the TV strictly by accident. Don’t be like that – be ultra-safe.

Never get cocky with a firearm. Don’t let movie actors be your model. Except in rare cases, they aren’t given real guns with real ammunition and are there to entertain and present a story. Please don’t think you are so cool as to hold a pistol sideways – don’t be stupid, ever. Your life and those you love hang in the balance.

A Few Other Thoughts

• If your state restricts certain firearms, obey the law. There are many fine firearms which will more than serve you well that are not illegal. For instance, old school lever action “deer” rifles are quite well equipped to serve and old-time cops used to use semi-auto deer hunting rifles with 10 round after market magazines in some serious calibers like: 308 Win, 30-06, 243 Win, etc.  in the performance of their duties with excellent effect.
• Be aware that shooting and/or killing another human being has some severe emotional and legal ramifications. Some insurance and legal advice will be required if you are involved in a shooting. Even if found not-guilty, the costs of defending ourselves in our legal system is outrageous. Some individual attorneys specialize in this type of case and offer insurance for just such instances. Living with the aftermath of a shooting can be traumatic and will surely leave you a different person.
• For some real-life tests for particular guns and situations, I can highly recommend Paul Harrell on YouTube. Some of his old video’s are most revealing and the testing he does is very well done. His older videos were made in a different time, and the issues facing us today may not be exactly what he is testing, but it will give you some great ideas on how to train.

Covid proves that people are willing to forfeit their human rights, dignity and freedom on the flimsiest of pretexts.
We’ve been so degraded and our minds trivialized, that we can’t understand catastrophic historical change, let alone cope with it. “Americans are willing to kneel in slavery to the ruling class long after the “threat” of COVID-19 is gone. Many will continue to be obedient to their masters, lick the hand that feeds them, and wear the ritualistic shame muzzle for the foreseeable future.”

Researchers at the Ohio State University’sWexner Medical Center polled more than 2,000 people across the country and found that most of those surveyed are OK with continuing many pandemic protocols for public health, even when COVID-19 is no longer a major threat. That includes wearing the shame muzzle.

The survey was actually indicative of the ability to control and manipulate the public without actually having to use the physical chains of slavery. The survey specifically found the following:

(How easily we have given up our humanity. Masks are occult. We’ve entered the Twilight Zone.)72 percent of people still plan to wear masks in public.80 percent will avoid crowds.90 percent will frequently wash their hands and use hand sanitizer.
The oppressive slave state rulers “hope” they have convinced people to hand over their liberties for a false sense of security.
Dr. Iahn Gonsenhauser, chief quality and patient safety officer at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center who helped conduct this survey says he’s “hopeful” that people will consider wearing masks during cold and flu season in the future.

We stop being a physical human being when we die. This has happened to many of us who have been vaccinated. There is no such thing as transhumans but demons (jinns in Arabic) do exist and under extreme circumstances where the five human body systems have weakened and starts to fail, the human brain starts to hallucinate and demons can control it. This does not happen unless we will it.
We all have a God give free will and God given rights. We are, therefore we have human rights – they must not be violated. If anyone (only the one who covers and lies to the truth) is foolish to take away our free will and human rights, then be absolutely certain that that one will be touched by Satan, the Accursed in one’s brain – one will be humiliated in this world and after his death one will have a terrible punishment that the worst punishment of this world (death penalty or by mutilation) does not even come close.
Those that can leave the inhuman lockdowns should go to places where they can live freely. Grow your own foods. Other cities, like Houston and Cleveland, are also situated over similar salt mines.

In fact, every state has at least five natural nuclear bunkers, and I’m willing to bet at least one is within a life-saving distance from your house.

But that’s not all, because I’ll also show you an ingenious method of having a unique kind of root cellar in your backyard or under your house that is designed to also protect you from disasters like famines, hurricanes, EMPs, looters, tornadoes, bullets, and even fallout and radiation after a nuclear blast.

Most importantly, it will preserve your water and food reserves year-round, just like our grandparents’ root cellars…but it’s a lot easier to build. In fact, it’s the coolest thing I’ve ever added to my small backyard.

My name is Tom Griffith. I’m a retired 60-year-old Nuclear Safeguard Inspector, and I’m by no means a Doomsday prepper. I do prepare, but the old-fashioned way, just like our grandparents did when they put aside some food each year for winter or hard times.

Many years ago, when my hands became progressively stiffer with arthrites, I knew that bugging out was no longer an option for me. Leave that to the young people who are still able to deal with the many hardships of living isolated in the woods.

And even for the young, this should be a last resort.

Bugging out to live off the land is a fairy tale for most.

What are you going to do when 10,000 other folks bug out to your part of the woods? Bye-bye game animals, fish, or edible plants.

Or if someone assumes they will bug out to the country, we of the country are not going to be that welcoming of intruders on our property. Bugging out and not belonging to that area could get you killed quicker than any of the other reasons.

Now, you probably don’t consider your small neighborhood or dead end street a community, but let some disaster happen, and you will see humans come together for safety and support-at least in the begining… .

Listen…even if you have only two weeks’ worth of food and water at home, that is nothing to sneeze at. So my advice is to find a way to stay at home and bug in. Leave only if you really have to and only after I’ve shown you where you can find the closest natural bunker to your home.

Our grandparents had their root cellars…and not only did they have supplies for months there, but it was also a place to take shelter when a storm hit or in times of crisis.

So I decided to find a simple way to have a root cellar where I can keep all my stockpiles and everything that I grow in my backyard without it spoiling…but also to serve as a shelter for me and my family. One that can withstand hurricanes, tornadoes, and even nuclear fallout… It also had to be hidden from looters after an EMP and suplies you with food and water in an economic crisis, safety during civil unrest, or anything else you can think of.

I also wasn’t planning on breaking my back building it either-my arthritis wouldn’t agree.

So I started looking for solutions. Now, some of the ideas I found were just crazy…but at least a few seemed doable and were cheap enough to give them a go.

First I tried a buried shipping container.

Man, it was hard. It might sound like a good idea, but please don’t ever try this unless you have at least $4,000 lying arround and are prepared to work intensively for a whole month.

And even if you build it, you’ll soon find out that it was all for nothing.

As you can see, the weight of the ground caused the curbside walls of the container to buckle in.

Shipping containers can hold a lot of weight but only on the corners, not on the sides.

What if the shipping container collapses and buries everyone inside? What if a “secure shelter” suddenly becomes a deathtrap for you and your entire family?

Luckily, there’s a better way…

Way better…

Way cheaper…

Way safer…

…but, most importantly, way easier than burying a shipping container… and it’s also waterproof, so no matter how close the water table is, it won’t bother you one bit!

But just like you, I didn’t know about it… yet!

Sure, there are other ways to make a root cellar or a bunker, but they are either too time consuming or too expensive-$10,000 or more.

I was just about to give up on my dream of having an old-style root cellar.

Then something really strange happened.

One day, I saw my neighbor Jerry slowly climbing out from somewhere below his backyard. At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but looking closely, I saw stairs leading into the ground and realized he must have built something…like a hidden basement.

To say I was intrigued would be an understatement. Why?

Jerry is a 70-year-old disabled war veteran living on a fixed income.

He became a prisoner of war after stepping on a mine and losing his leg in Nam. For a whole year, he was taken from camp to camp and bunker to bunker and endured incredible hardships. Through forced labor, hunger, and constant beatings, Jerry found one thing to focus on to keep himself sane. He planned to escape one day and reveal all he had seen and learned during his captivity. One thing in particular caught his eye more than anything else -the bunkers being built with a speed and ease Jerry had never seen before.

When he served in the U.S. Army, Jerry helped build the American bunkers, which took 5 men working for weeks to make and were quite exposed. The Vietnamese bunkers, on the other hand, were completely different.

You see, the Viet Cong had become master builders because they were forced to adapt to some of the deadliest conditions known to man. They didn’t have bricks or mortar, but they still managed to build underground shelters that were strong enough to withstand the constant pounding of powerful American bombs. This is where they kept all their food and tactical supplies. The Viet Cong bunkers were so efficient that the CIA estimated that for every 100 bombs dropped on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, just one North Vietnamese soldier died.

On the day he was rescued, Jerry weighed 95 pounds at the most. He was so fragile they had to feed him through a tube for days. The intel he provided on enemy tactics ended up saving countless American lives…so the army gave Jerry a medal and a plane ticket back to the U.S.

While the war was soon over and American soldiers were happily returning to their families, for Jerry, the struggle continued.

Things that most people take for granted don’t come easy at all for Jerry. Losing his leg early in life meant he had to learn to do things differently, without hard physical work or breaking the bank.

Jerry never complained about his disability and never asked for or expected help from anyone. He is truly a hero, but he never bragged about it.

Instead, he is probably the most self-reliant man I know.

What he built in his backyard was a unique kind of root cellar…but here comes the truly shocking part.

It only took Jerry a week to get it done-on his own! When I went down the stairs, I felt as if I had traveled back in time… right to my grandfather’s root cellar.

While smaller, at probably 150 square feet, everything else was exactly the same-even that old smell I missed so much! Jerry had all sorts of cans, rice, beans, and jerky hanging from the ceiling, but he also had modern supplies like Progresso soup, pasta, peanut butter, dry goods, candles, water bottles, meds, an AR-15, a really big ammo box, and a lot more that I’ll tell you about soon.

Jerry affectionately called it his “life cellar”, and I could really see why. This thing could keep you and your whole family alive for months, even years, with no outside help. He also improvised a homemade ventilation system. When I examined it closely, I realized that his so-called charcoal “life-vent” would actually be able to filter out almost everything you can think of, including radioactive particles.

By this point, I was dead curious to find out just how my one-legged old neighbor had achieved ALL this in one short week!

A generous and kind man in spite of the many horrors he had witnessed, Jerry smiled and offered to share everything he knew with me.
